A Love Story...

Since tomorrow is Valentine's Day...

and another Make It Monday over at PTI...

and I'm going to be hanging out over there tomorrow night hoping to score some of the new goodies being released...

I thought I would I wish you a Happy Valentine's today...

with a love story.

This is Dinky...

he's 4.

He met a girl.

She's 4 too.

They met at school.

He loves school.

He cries on the days he doesn't have school...

which is every Monday and Friday.

And this is a true story...

I normally don't pick Dinky up from school...

my Mom helps me out by picking him up from pre-k on the days I drive to Nashville to pick up Hunter.

But on this day...

I picked up Dinky.

And after buckling him in...

as the door was closing...

he leaned forward and said...

"I kiss Riley".

My mouth hit the sidewalk and I started saying...

"What!  What!"...

as the door closes on me.

So I turned around...

and asked his teacher if there was someone named Riley in his class...

she said "Yes".

My second question was "Is Riley a girl?"...

she smiled and said...

"Yes".

Whew! Relief.

Then...

"Did Ryder kiss her?"

His teacher smiled a really big smile and said...

"I wouldn't doubt it".

Oh, no!

My mind started racing...

parents sue over this kind of stuff!

That kid's going to get kicked out pre-k!

What am I going to do?

I smiled as best as I could...

probably looked more like an insane grimace...

and then I ran.

To the car.

And as I'm trying to buckle and pull away...

from the backseat...

"You talk Ms. Shelley 'bout me?"

"Did you kiss Riley?"

"You talk Ms. Shelley 'bout me?"

"You first, dude!

Did you kiss Riley?"

"Yes".

"You kissed her?"

"Yes...

pause...

"4 times!"

This was said with a smile and so much pride...

"WHAT!...

WHAT!

4 TIMES?"

"Uh...huh"

"Where?  How did this happen?"

"In the kitchen".

"In class?"

"Uh...huh"

"You kissed her 4 times...why?"

"Cee told me to"

"She told you?"

"Uh...huh"

Whew!  We won't get sued after all...

he won't be kicked out of pre-k for sexual harassment.

"Why?"

"Cinderella always kisses Prince Charming"

"So you're Prince Charming?..."

"Uh...huh"

"Two days ago...

you wanted to be poor, ugly and a dork...

and now you're Prince Charming?"

"Uh...huh".

My mind is racing...

reeling...

with the thought that my 4 year old...

my baby...

is kissing girls!

"OK.  Tell me this...

who puckered up first?"

"Huh?"

"Who started...who instigated...

these kisses?

Who puckered first?"

"Cee did".

"Are you sure?"

"Uh...huh...

Cee puckered up...

(pause...)

and din...

(wait for it...)

cee puckered me up!"

I believe it may be a testament to my driving skills that I stayed on the road...

and did not drive us to the bottom of the lake we were at that time driving past.

So here's hoping that tomorrow...

on the day that is dedicated to love...

and kisses...

that you too...

will have someone pucker you up!

  1. Hahahaha!! That is so funny!! Because I have a 7 yo son and 4 yo daughter I feel your pain. But what's so funny is once upon a time, I was 4. And our little 4 yo group at church had a choir. One night they had us sing for the entire (very large) church. I turned around and kissed another 4 yo boy in the middle of that song. Although it was a big church my family was well known. My mom used to tell me it was the only time she wished for a trap door in the church floor!! She survived and so did I. You and your sweet boy will be fine!! And it'll be a fun story to retell years from now :).

  2. This was a really sweet, touching story. Dinky is a total character. You must laugh all the time over his escapades. Hey, I had listed some Nesties on Ebay a month ago and totally forgot about them. Someone bought them! I have $50 more to spend tomorrow. I was so excited when I saw the notice from Ebay.

  4. Your little man being a chick magnet... HOW CUTE!!! And horrifying!!! My DS is 10 and thankfully he's deathly afraid of girls... which is a good thing since I'm not even mentally prepared to handle girls. Yet. I'm hoping I still have a few more years left to prepare myself.

On a different note... I thought you'd get a chuckle. So thanks to your book recommendation, I'm reading Darkfever. DH saw the book and asked, "Are you reading a trashy novel? There are two half naked people on the cover!" I just rolled my eyes. I responded, "No! I don't think I got to those parts yet..." LOL. Thanks for sharing that post. I'm a Twilight fan so I jumped on this series. I'm only a few chapters in and really enjoying it so far.
