A Little Christmas Ditty...

Popping in really quickly because I have 2 million...
526 thousand...
132 things to do today...
school starts tomorrow for a couple of kiddies!
Part of me says "Yea!!"...
the other part is sad that Summer break is ending...
and no more pj days till Fall.
Dinky starts kindergarten later this week...
but we have his Open House this afternoon.
Hunter won't start for a couple more weeks and hopefully this remodel will be almost completed by then because in all honesty...
I'm scared to go in and out of the house with her since I fell.
I still burst into tears at the just the thought of how I could hurt her.

So...
last week I did this card...

I started thinking of it because of an idea I've had in my head for a Christmas card for a while...
which I finally got one done...

The idea was to keep it CAS...
but I just had to add that little bit of lace and bling...
only I still think it qualifies because it was so quick and easy...
and I will be making a few of these for this year's Christmas cards!

So Summer break is at an end...
and Robert
4th of July

is not complaining about school starting tomorrow...
that in and of itself is a miracle.
Here's how last year went when we went to look at his class list...

Robert:  I knew it!
             She's in my class...
             again!
Me:  Who?
Robert: (withholding name to protect the innocent) Her!
Me: Well...
       what's wrong with that?
She's been in your class the last 2 years.
Robert:  EXACTLY!
              And she's mean!
Me: Why?
       What does she do?
Robert:  She chases me.
              Everyday...
              she chases me!
             And sometimes...
I just have no where to go!

As a mother...
it took everything I had not to laugh.
And the "no where to go" comment...
it's literal.
They have borders on the playground and you can't go beyond a point or you're in trouble...
and apparently my son kept going for the border...
with no escape.
But a couple of weeks ago we went to check his class list for this school year...
he was so happy because he got the teacher he wanted...
a couple of good friends...
and guess who else...
yup!
4th year they've been in the same class together!
Only this time...
no complaining about her!
They take tennis lessons together now...
and he even tried to prank call her a while back...
until we got onto him when he was trying to figure out how she called him right back when he had never given her our number...
and we had to explain caller id to him.
She's a really cute little girl...
she still chases him...
and has added hitting him with her racket...
he doesn't complain about her though...
I think it's love.
*giggle*

Oh...The Weather Outside Is Frightful...

though not quite what this song was written about.

It is frightful...

but instead of cold and snow...

we have high heat...

and humidity...

105 in the shade.

So I'm trying to keep cozy inside with the 8th wonder of the world cranking out some cool breezes...

and dreaming of fluffy, white snow.

Though I will be singing an incredibly different tune around January when the white stuff usually starts making an appearance...

and I remember that I only actually like snow when it's July and August and 110 in the shade.

I know...

go figure!

I am woman...

watch me confuse you!

*giggle*

So trying to keep cool...

and dreaming of fluffy, white stuff I don't actually like...

puts me in the mood for...

CHRISTMAS!

I do love Christmas...

I do, I do, I do!!

And snow is welcome on December 24th...

as long as it doesn't overstay it's welcome...

and is gone by December 26th.

That's the only time I actually want to see it.

Last year was our first white Christmas in...

oh!  I can't even tell you how long...

something like 17 years I think...

and since I had not stepped one toe outside during this time...

love-of-my-life-man-that-I married actually thought he needed to tell me it was there because I always ask for a white Christmas...

don't you just love Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye...

Rosemary Clooney?

I had to remind him that just because I wanted a white Christmas did not mean I actually wanted to go out into the cold with it...

I could see it just fine from the comfort of my heated home while watching out the window...

and I was still getting a white Christmas!

But with a new Waltzingmouse sketch...

and me thinking of a white Christmas...

I guess it's only natural I do this...

I was going for a country Christmas this week...

I just love blue and red together...

and well...

I'm Southern.

It's genetically implanted in me to LOVE gingham!

Seriously...

it's like against the law or something.

So I tried to bring a little country to this one...

what do you think?

At least it looks cooling...

Stamp-A-Faire Challenge #10

I did not get to attend the incredible Stamp-A-Faire hosted by PTI this past weekend...

and though they were so creative and thoughtful at coming up with ways to include everyone with online challenges...

I didn't get to participate on Saturday.

I had the time...

just absolutely no mojo.

I think my mind was extremely distracted...

doors...windows...flooring...

my mind can only handle so much at any given moment and apparently I was on overload already...

but since Challenge #10 failed to load...

they've given us until tonight for that challenge...

and you can read about that challenge here...

I did get a little ditty done for it.

Actually it worked out perfectly...

had already started working on a card in my mind for a very special birthday coming up this week and the challenge actually incorporated where my mind was starting to go anyway so here we go...

Now...

I really need your help and advice on this one...

but first that little "smudge" you see in the right hand corner...

I swear I didn't do that...

I used Vintage Cream and it's actually woven into the paper...

just to let you know I actually didn't make a boo-boo...

which I normally do...

but this card is for our preacher who retired at the end of last year...

he will be 86 years young on Thursday...

seriously...

if you were to judge him on his energy and spirit alone...

you would never guess...

but unfortunately time is catching up and his body is showing signs of his age.

We had a special service a couple of weeks ago and he came back to speak...

he wasn't able to climb the steps to the pulpit so instead had to sit on a stool at the front...

it was heartbreaking.

His wife and him have been married for over 65 years...

a feat unheard of in this day and age...

and to see them together...

to hear them speak of one another...

they still act like newlyweds.

They are the most kindhearted, generous souls you could ever meet...

and we all just adore and miss them.

But is this card appropriate for him?

I know...

it has flowers...

which doesn't scream "manly" and even though he probably would love and get a kick out of a card that said "You Rock"...

I just didn't feel that was quite appropriate for him either.

I tried to use the Newsprint background to "soften" the feminine feel...

I've loved Nichole, Dawn and others using bookpages...

stamping and coloring onto them...

and really wished I had an old hymn book to use for such occasions...

I think I'll go hunting Sunday and see if I can round one up...

but I also didn't think using a page from an old bible would be quite "right".

What do you think about that?

Would that be bad?

So honest opinions on this one before I pop it into the mail tomorrow...

is this appropriate for an older gentleman or should I rethink?

And what about using an old bible page...

am I a bad person for thinking of it...

would it be a really bad thing?

What about using an old hymn book?

Seriously...

tell me your thoughts.

Papertrey Blog Hop

It's the 25th...

time for another Papertrey Ink Blog Hop...

and I remembered without a reminder this month!

Maybe it's because even though I didn't order on the 15th...

was waiting for Stamp-A-Faire...

I was up.

It was another equally...

and in some ways even more...

(GASP! BLASPHEMY!!)

important night...

the premiere of the final Harry Potter film.

Unfortunately...

love-of-my-life-man-that-I-married grabbed my ticket for the midnight show and I was left behind with half the kids.

So...

I was awake for release...

and since I wasn't ordering...

went to check out the inspirational photo they had challenged us with this month.

Here's a looksey...

and I'm so horrible at photo challenges...

I never know what to go with.

Colors?

Elements?

What?

So I threw caution to the wind and came up with this...

I focused on the colors...

but decided to cut a "window"...

and then I drew from the pillow on the window seat and added a couple of butterflies.

See the book the card is on...

I cut the butterflies from maps found inside.

I found this one at a yardsale...

$1...

really loved the texture on the cover and never realized about the maps inside for a couple of months until I just started thumbing through it one day.

It's almost 100 years old...

printed in 1926...

an anniversary edition of their encyclopedias...

and they all have maps like this...

no staples...

they fold out.

After I cut my butterflies and really loved how they looked on the map paper...

I started thinking I might run out of maps so I went to ebay to see about grabbing a couple more books...

they sale for $25-40 dollars apiece there.

The collector in me then thought...

"Mmmm...maybe I shouldn't have cut into my book?"

Too late.

I think I'll stick with thrift shops and yard sales though.

But this map is so old...

where I used to live in Maryland isn't even on it.

I found surrounding areas...

Bel Air...

Havre De Grace...

Abingdon...

Aberdeen...

but no Aberdeen Proving Ground...

much less Edgewood Arsenal.

They weren't established until after WWII.

Kind'a surreal...

like "I know it's there...where is it?"...

but also kind'a cool at the same time...

to be able to point to the map and know that's where it is...

but to see it before it existed.

So I didn't forget blog hop this month...

all because love-of-my-life-man-that-I-married took my ticket for the final HP...

the ending of an incredible journey that introduced the joy of reading to so many...

sparked millions of imaginations...

showed us the power of love...

and the value of forgiveness...

But he won't be grabbing my ticket for this one...

Let the games begin!

Papertrey Paper Dolls Challenge #42 and MIM #26

Guess what?

Not only did these incredibly talented ladies...

(seriously...incredibly talented)...

let me be a part of their group...

sometimes...

they even claim me...

and now they're letting me do a challenge!!

YEAH!!!

It's my first!

Hope it's not my last.

But because I'm actually too lazy to type it twice...

I just copied and pasted everything...

I'm double the fun!!

*giggle*

I'm also entering this ditty in this week's amazing...

Lisa Johnson intrigued me greatly with this challenge...

you'll understand why when you actually read below...

because again...

I'm too lazy to type it twice!

So have you heard the news?

One of our very own Dolls is in the 2011 Gallery Idol competition...

YEAH LAURIE BETH!!!

Can we get a big WHOO-HOO!!!

We've always known she was extremely talented...

seriously this group is full of talent...

but now the rest of the world knows just how talented this Doll is.

And I don't know if this breaks any rules...

hence the "hope it's not my last" comment...

but I thought it only fitting to challenge everyone in a tribute to Laurie!

Here's her card for this week's challenge...

SoapboxCreations
Notice anything?

Hhhmmmm....?

Her rolled roses!

Love those roses!

Seriously...

love!

And that's the challenge I'm issuing this week...

make a card using Laurie's gorgeous rolled roses.

I know they are technically not "hers"...

but every time I see them I associate them with her so it's all the same.

At least in my world.

Now...

before you panic because Laurie does use a die to make hers and you don't have a die to make the roses...

never fear!

I am here...

and I just so happen to be a secret super spy!

OK...

not really...

though I really did want to be one...

see here...

but I do happen to have a slight addiction to Pinterest...

so again...

it's all the same.

If you don't happen to have a die to cut the flowers...

you can do this...

Pinterest
Or you can do what I did and punch a circle...

I used a 1 3/4 punch...

and then just started cutting into the circle until I had something that resembled a curly fry!

Then I rolled it around a lolli stick until I had something that resembled a rose.

Here's my tribute to Laurie and her rolled roses...

I also used this weeks Make It Monday technique demonstrated by the uber talented Lisa Johnson...

you can watch the video here.

I made sure to make time for this challenge because it is something I'm about to do on a much larger scale...

see this...

Pinterest

I'm about to do this to my fireplace...

minus the stockings unless it's Christmas!!

Painting the tile black...

love touches of black...

and then painting a "vintage" canvas for the mantle...

thank you so much Lisa Johnson for giving me the know how to achieve it!

I have silhouettes of all my children from their kindergarten year...

and Dinky is starting kindergarten in just a couple of weeks.

Granted...since I can't wait for Mother's Day to get his...

I may have to undertake the project for his myself...

any tips welcome!

And just a little FYI...

this kid can't sit still for more than 3 seconds...

any tips on accomplishing that feat short of duct taping him to a chair...

oh!...

who am I kidding...

that may be my only option!

*giggle*

OK...

now remember...

all Dolls challenges are open to everyone...

so get busy cutting some roses and link up your beauties!

Waltzingmouse Sketch #56

I'm back with another Waltzingmouse Challenge...

this is the sketch for this week...

and in all honesty...

being limited at the moment on WMS...

I have found rectangles to be much easier for me.

Not that I'm saying this card is just great shakes...

but it was easier...

there's a difference.

I just can't wait to get my grubby little hands on some more of these gorgeous stamps...

I've never actually rushed the 1st of August before...

it means the end of Summer break...

but since they are having a special release this month...

Cathy and I are waiting till the 1st to place an order...

so come on August!

And here's the card...

I went Christmas with this one...

I told you I would be working on Christmas!

And I sewed again!!

Who knew if they had just given me paper instead of fabric...

and just let me glue it to some more paper instead of trying to wear it...

I might actually learn how to do it!

I'm still trying to get the hang of vintagey, romantic cards...

not my norm...

but since I don't really have a "norm" maybe with practice this could be my norm...

and since I just love vintage...

I die over vintage...

and Waltzingmouse just lends to that vintage, romantic feeling...

it's how I want to go when using them.

I know...

I'll keep practicing!

But the paper looks amazing with that font...

don't you agree?

At least maybe I got that right!

I'm Waltzing...

Isn't that logo just the cutest?

Today I'm waltzing for the very first time.

Seriously.

I don't dance...

at all.

Maybe it's because I have the grace of a blind cross-eyed hippo on a 10 day drunk...

and I would love to say I do it the protect the safety of the innocent...

but in all honestly...

it's to protect my self pride.

Because I actually love dancing!

I do it all the time!

When I'm home...

by myself.

And just a little TMI...

I also sing.

In my world...

Joe Elliott (Def Leppard) doing a little Thin Lizzy...

has nothing on me.

Linkin Park "In the End"...

Chester only wishes he could sing it as good as I do.

And don't even get me started on some Pat Benatar...

I hit her high notes perfectly.

And since I'm home alone...

I also get to hide all evidence of broken objects before anyone returns and discovers what I've been doing.

But as for dancing...

we'll just go with the idea of me not dancing publicly to protect the innocent so I'll seem like a good person...

ok?

So today is literally my very first waltz...

and I'm still limited on my Waltzingmouse stamps...

but am correcting that in just a bit...

going to be placing my first order!

My friend Cathy (EmptyNestCrafter) didn't know I've been dying for some and placed an order with someone else this month...

but on the 1st we're placing an order together and I can't wait!

Until then though she has graciously offered to stamp me off some of her images to use until I get mine...

YEA!!...

but they weren't here in time for the Waltz so I've tried to use what I have...

no great shakes...

but I've tried.

I saw this card on Pinterest...

Pinterest...hedgehogsandladybugs.blogspot.com
Isn't that gorgeous?

Loved how she used the candle.

And since the waltz theme was birthday party...

and I'm limited...

I did this...

I was having problems with Photoshop...

I told you I was going to learn how to use it but apparently I'm not doing too good...

so this was the best I could do for now.

This card is also my very first time sewing on paper!

I actually failed sewing in high school...

really...

no lie...

I did...

so this was an accomplishment for me.

And...

I made those flowers!!

All by myself.

Don't laugh at them.

But a lot of "first's" with this one...

first waltz...

first sewing...

first rolled roses!

Whew!

And since I'm done now...

won't you join me in "waltzing" off to see how everyone else dances?
*giggle*

Summer Card Camp Week #3

Another week at camp...

this is the longest I've ever lasted camping.

Of course...

love-of-my-life-man-that-I-married once took me camping...

like real camping...

in a tent...

in the woods...

I lasted one night.

It was his fault...

he made me sleep on a tree root...

and 15 years later I still remind him of that point every time he happens to mention camping.

I've told him when he can pitch a tent like this...

Pinterest...paperbarkcamp.com
I'll go camping with him again.

He told me to keep dreaming.

And I told him...

"Back at'cha, babe"!

That's Southern for...

"Same to ya"!

So anyway I'm still at camp...

and I had fun with the colors last week...

a lot of fun...

but this week...

this week I LOVE the colors.
Red...kraft...brown...white...

*sigh*

One of my all time favorite color combos.

And when I see it...

I think of Christmas...

don't ask why...

but I do.

So it's Summer...

and I did this...

At least I can say it's...

Christmas in July!

*giggle*

Surely I'm not the only one that remembers that?

And see that ribbon?

Found it at Michael's last year...

loved it...

and bought like 6 rolls.

I don't make that many Christmas cards...

but I do have a slight ribbon hoarding addiction...

so I'm using it this year before love-of-my-life-man-that-I-married discovers those 6 rolls of ribbon...

maybe along with a couple hundred more...

and starts planning an intervention...

or a divorce.

And now that I think about that...

I may need to go hide a few things...

see ya!

Waltzingmouse Sketch #55

Quickie post...

another very busy week getting things ready to hopefully start our little remodel very soon...

how does a garage amass such large quantities of "things"?

I don't understand...

but it's love-of-my-life-man-that-I-married's domain...

he should be the one dealing with it all...

but how lucky for him that he injured his foot and can't.

Though he is able to sit and sort through boxes and tools and decide what stays...

what goes...

and is it going to the storage barn...

or Goodwill?

Too bad for him that it's 100 degrees outside and 150% humidity...

ok...

maybe a slight exaggeration...

but not by much!

It's why we Southerner's believe that air conditioning truly is the 8th wonder of the world...

July.

In the South.

The only thing worse...

August!

So while he's out sorting and sweating...

I made a little ditty for the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge...

Here's the sketch...
and here's what I did...

And lest you think I'm horrible for making him work out in this heat while injured and I get to "play" with paper, stamps and ribbon...

I'm actually inside working on the laundry room where we will have to remove cabinets and organize to accommodate the 2nd refrigerator and freezer that has to be relocated from the garage...

just waiting on a load to buzz at me!

I Had A Big Button...

OK...

I promise you this is my last card using these colors...

for today...

but I had a big button that I found in a forgotten button stash over the weekend...

just laying here on my table...

calling to me...

and I wanted to use it so I did this...

Isn't it just perfect with these colors?

I used my big button...

I'm done now.

Another Camp Card...

And I'm back with another one.

After the paper fiasco yesterday...

and having time to try and come up with something without it...

I actually hit upon a few ideas.

This is number #2...

After many months of wanting...

and waiting...

PTI released dies for Scattered Showers last month...

but I didn't use them here.

They were either too large...

or my card would have been 10 inches long (it's 7.5).

Instead I used the negative from Favor It #2...

which I realized before the Holidays last year when I was cutting about 100 of them for kiddies classes...

looked just like a little umbrella!

And used Glossy Accents on the little umbrella's to make them "pop" just a bit...

what do you think?

Quickie post right now because I actually have #3 half finished here on my table...

we'll see when I get it finished because I have a gazillion things to do today...

including the dreaded grocery...

uugghhh.

but I may be back!

I'm really finding these colors so much fun to work with...

I can't seem to stop...

so I'll just apologize.

Note:  Carol asked on my card yesterday if I had the pearls in all the colors or if I colored...
yes and no.
I have pearls in most of these colors...
but they're larger and I needed seed pearls for yesterday's card...
so I colored with Copics.
Today is a combo.

Summer Card Camp...Week #2

Yup...

I'm still at camp.

This weeks colors were a little easier than last week...

I don't know why...

maybe because there's red this week...

I love red.

Next to navy it's my favorite color.

And then when you throw in the greens...

automatically I think...

watermelon!

But then the yellow and the orange...

not so much watermelon.

But I did think of peppers...

and tomatoes...

only I don't actually eat those...

nor do I have any stamps of peppers or tomatoes.

So while waiting for some paper to download for this card...

and let me tell it was a wait!!

Like all day wait!

I started this morning...

and at one point my download time was 45 Days...

that's a long time to wait for paper...

so I had lots of time to sit and play...

and instead I did this...

And yes...

I finally got my paper that I no longer need.

My First Waltzingmouse...

It's my first...

WaltzingmouseStamps

Waltzingmouse sketch challenge...

my first Waltzingmouse challenge of any kind.

I haven't had any of their stamps but recently acquired a couple...

and am so excited!

OK...

wait!

I have had one...

but it's a "secret" set and well...

it's a "secret" in this house and with nosey kiddies...

kept under lock and key!

But my dear friend Sharron from OnPapillionWings helped me out with this one last year when a certain someone in our house started "questioning" things not long before a very important date and I was desperately searching for any way to help continue a tradition...

most especially since Dinky was only 4 at the time and this particular someone is not known for keeping secrets!

Seriously...

he should never consider a career in law enforcement of any kind...

if ever captured...

he will tell everything he has ever known about everyone he has ever known...

and unlike his Mama whereas fear makes me talk more than normal and if ever captured they would kill me just to shut me up...

he tells just because he knows something to tell!

Love this guy!

So I haven't been able to play until recently acquiring a couple of sets...

and can't wait to get more!

And I don't know why I haven't already...

what have I been waiting on?

I think it's been the international shipping thing...

never done it.

But it's Ireland!

My heart dreams of Ireland.

And when I win the lottery...

I'm so buying a cottage there!

A dear friend got to go over last year...

I was insanely jealous...

and I offered to be her nanny...

or just attach myself to her luggage and refuse to let go regardless of what they threatened to do to me until I landed in Ireland...

but I settled for drooling over her pictures when she returned...

which I think she had to replace a few because they may have been slightly wet when I returned them.

But Ireland!!

I'm a Lynch!

We have an Irish crest!

Look...

she sent this while she was over...

and there is even a Lynch Castle in Dublin!

Now currently a bank and I wonder if they would recognize my heritage if I went over and tried to claim it?

Alright...

technically...

love-of-my-life-man-that-I-married's heritage but I married him and by marital law...

what's his is mine!

*giggle*

So again...

why have I waited?

I don't really have an answer...

but can tell you that I am remedying it very soon!

So my selection for this challenge was limited...

here's the sketch...

I only have Holiday sets right now...

yesterday...

Summer and the 4th of July...

today...

Fall and Halloween!

And in my world...

next week is Christmas.

Seriously...

I'm working on Christmas.

Happy 4th

First...

I want to thank everyone who left such sweet comments on my button mints.

Your kind, uplifting words mean more than I can ever express to you and truly made my whole week...

oh!

Who am I kidding?

My whole month!!

I very rarely come up with an idea that should ever be expressed outside of my own head...

and I had so much fun with that post!

Seriously.

I had to sit on it for almost 2 weeks because Cathy had just left to go out of town and like the num-num that I am...

in my excitement I totally forgot she was leaving...

so I was like a kid at Christmas waiting for her return and getting that package!

And just to let you know...

par for me...

I still almost screwed it up!

Why did the fact that flights sometimes get delayed never enter my mind?

Probably because I can only handle one thought at a time and apparently that just wasn't going to be it!

But as promised...

a winner!

And from Random.org comes the handy little number generator...

that I have not figured out how to use correctly...

I'll work on that...

but the number that it did choose before erasing...
