Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #75

Hello everyone!
Back again after quite an unplanned break...
and I hope everyone here in the US had a Happy and wonderful Thanksgiving...
and no one was injured in the sport of champions...
shopping on Black Friday...
*giggle*
I had not meant to be away quite so long but I have 2 words for you...
stomach flu.
Yeah.
Thought. I. was. going. to. die!
I don't get sick often...
it's very rare...
other than sinuses and allergies...
and I don't handle illness well.
And perfect timing...
here it is the week of Thanksgiving...
the motherload of feasts...
buffet champions dream of this day...
and the mere thought of food turns my stomach.
I guess it's a good thing that buffet's don't do anything for me...
and everyone else can actually out eat me on Thanksgiving...
even the little ones at the kiddie table.
But Black Friday.
I HAVE to go out on Black Friday!
Even if it's just to watch how frenzied and funny everyone looks while doing their shopping...
I get up in the middle of the night to go out to the mall...
Toys R Us...
Wal-Mart!
I apologize...
but honestly...
WalMart should not be worth no sleep...
they're open 24 hours!
But this one day out of the year...
I am there.
I'm never one of the crazy frenzied ones though...
there's never anything I absolutely have to have that I would ever lose my manners in order to get...
but I'm there!
And since Haley discovered the "secret" a few years ago...
she's right along with me!
She's the one who actually loves it...
I do most of my shopping online...
but I love that it's become a "tradition" for us.
And even in these horrid teen years...
she still asks if we're going so I won't pass up the chance for some alone time for just me and her.

So I am feeling so much better than earlier this week...
and now that my house looks like a hurricane hit it...
there's a mountain of laundry...
and groceries that did not get bought which means the pantry is bare...
it's time to play with the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge...
*giggle*
This is such a fabulous sketch this week...
another one by the incredible Claire Brennan...
and you're going to love this...
Placecards!!
Just in time for the Holidays.
There is so much you can do with this...
it actually makes it hard because you can get so creative with this one!
Here's my take...
I kept it simple because...
one...
I was pretty sure I was dying...
and two...
during the Holidays...
simple is what I look for!
We're always in such a rush...
doing this...
going there...
but simple can still make such a statement.
I used a few Waltzingmouse sets with this...
Festive Foliage, Frame It and Say It With Style...
isn't that font gorgeous?
Now you can dress this up...
embossing...
maybe some glittery berries.
You can forgo the sentiment and instead leave a place to write or stamp names.
And since this is actually what I would call a little mini card...
on the inside you could even print the year...
date and place...
and the menu.
A little remembrance for this Holiday season for those that like to have them...
and it would go great in a scrapbook along with some photos of the day.

So are you ready to play along with us?
Go and check out all the incredible ideas my fellow Mischief Makers have come up with...
I guarantee you will be inspired...
and then link up your project at the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge blog because we can't wait to see it!
One lucky participant will win the stamp set of their choice just for playing along!

Now I'm off to tackle the laundry, the cleaning, the grocery shopping...
all the things that never seem to get done...
only multiply...
when mom is out of commission.

CASE'ing Anya and A Winner

I have spent the last 2 nights getting a boost on my Christmas cards...
I know...
it's the week of Thanksgiving...
I should be done already...right?
I'm not.
I'm more of a "why do today what can be done tomorrow" kind of girl.
And I wasn't this way before kids...
so I'll blame it all on them...
they'll never know...
*giggle*
But I'm getting them done...
that's the important thing!
And this could possibly be the first year since discovering cardmaking that I'm not actually still making cards on December 23rd...
and in my world...
that's means I'm a lifetime ahead in this game!
*giggle*

So what have I been doing that has gotten almost 40 cards done...
CASE'ing Anya at Life Is What You Make It.
She did these fabulous CAS cards on the Waltzingmouse Blog Waltz last week...
you can see her cards here...
and Friday night I got 18...
well actually 17 because I messed up on one of the sentiments...
of these cards...
cut, scored, stamped and assembled...
done in less than an hour and half...

I stole it all...
even down to that gorgeous gingham paper!
And those stunningly realistic holly leaves are from the gorgeous set by Waltzingmouse...
Festive Foliage...
and the sentiment from one of my favorite sets...
Compliments of the Season.

And then I spent last night doing these...
which though I love the natural lighting of the above photo...
we have rain again so I had to do these in different lighting...
sorry...

They took a little longer...
lots of cutting...
but once I got all the cuts done...
stamping and assembling was a piece of cake!
I have 18 of these too...
so almost 40 cards done in 2 nights...
yea!!
My holly leaves are die cut chipboard...
I was worried I wouldn't have enough felt...
so they add just a little volume...
but I still think they will zip through the PO without any hitches...
I hope so anyway!

And now...
one of the reasons I showed all these photos is to announce our 4 of a Kind winner...
since she will be receiving the fabulous Say It Loud Winter Holiday set from Waltzingmouse ...
the winner came from Joyce's blog...
Cards-by-the-Sea...
and is number #9  Ames...

You girls are too fun! I've loved seeing the kits you come up with and what everyone does with them.

I've been DYING to try WMS and just haven't done it yet. I really need to jump on board

Thank you to everyone for stopping by and all of your wonderful comments...
we appreciate them more than words can ever say!
We're taking a break for the Holidays but we're going to pick up our 4 of a Kind again in January...
and Cathy is hostess again...
I honestly can't wait to see what she has in store for us!

And...
Claire is having a little contest over on her blog  celebrating 1000 likes on Facebook and the winner will receive the incredibly stunning Seasonal Remedies...

So head over and maybe give her a little suggestion for a stamp set you would love to see her do...
*wink*
But hurry!

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #74

So how many of you stopped by for the incredible Waltz over at Waltzingmouse Stamps the other day?
Weren't you just blown away with all the creative genius going on?
I was wowed...
awed...
inspired...
and motivated to just get crafty from all the incredible cards and projects I saw...
too bad laundry called...
and unfortunately I had to answer :(
But that's why there's Pinterest..
so I don't forget what I plan on stealing...
*giggle*

And now it's Saturday...
and we all know what Saturday's mean...
some more crafty goodness from the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge!
Each week I am just constantly amazed at all the incredible projects put up...
if you haven't stopped by...
first...
why not?
Second...
you would not believe all the inspiration coming from these weekly challenges that you happen to be missing!

And this week we have another fabulous sketch from the uber talented Claire...
And here is what I did with it...

I had to pull out the new Nordic Winter for this one...
you have to see this set!
It's utterly amazing...
Claire didn't leave anything out with this one and it will quickly become one of your go to sets for all kinds of Winter projects...
so versatile!
And because I have absolutely been dying over Jeanne's from A Kept Life mirror cardstock...
which I didn't know what that was so I had to ask and she so wonderfully shared her source...
thank you so much Jeanne...
I wanted to use some for this week so I cut a reindeer on my Cricut as my focal point...

Can you see the "mirror" a little better in this shot?
Sorry...
we haven't seen sun all week and by the time I got home earlier...
my light had already moved in the sky...
so not as bright as I would have liked.
Now the reindeer is a freebie and can be found and downloaded here...
and that gorgeous sentiment is from 2011 Holiday Ornaments...
I also had to add some of my favorite-accessory-of-the-moment...
jingle bells!!

These challenges are so fun much each week...
you gotta head over and check out what all my comrades in Mischief have gotten up to...
you will be inspired...
trust me!!
And then join us in the fun!
Each week someone will win the stamp set of their choice just for playing along...
so what are you waiting for?

Waltzingmouse Blog Waltz

WaltzingmouseStamps
I think you know what today is...
it's dancing day!
Waltzing to be specific.
*giggle*
Every month on the 17th Waltzingmouse Stamps holds their monthly Blog Waltz...
and I just love this day!
Look forward to it every month...
all the amazing inspiration to be found along the way...
and now that Christmas is upon us...
this month the theme is all about Christmas/ Winter.

Now...if you've read my blog for any amount of time...
you may already know that I am an incredibly proud mom of a special needs child.
I'm incredibly proud of all my children...
but well...
she's just special.
Hunter and her identical twin Haley were born at 27 weeks....
twin to twin transfusion.
She suffered a massive brain hemorrhage at birth and after 95 days in a NICU...
she was sent home by the doctors and specialists to be what they believed would be a "failure to thrive" baby.
She was never supposed to live.

They will both turn 14 on Tuesday.

She was never supposed to walk...
she does.
With a walker and some assistance.
She was never supposed to talk...
she does.
And though I've never heard her spontaneously say the words "I love you"...
when I whisper those words to her...
she responds back with the most precious "I lubba you" .
She loves music...
loves music...
and many ER and doctor visits over the years have seen my husband and myself softly singing "Beth" by KISS in her ear till our throats were raw.
She does spontaneously sing...
very loudly...
in church...
usually during the sermon when everyone else is quiet.
And you've never heard a more adorable rendition of Happy Birthday until you've heard hers...
"Happening birthday to you..."
She usually only sings it with the line "Happening birthday to Hunter..."...
but she really means you.

She is heaven.

She's blind with cerebral palsy so she attends the School for the Blind...
almost an hour away.
My husband takes her to school every morning before work...
and I pick her up every afternoon.
It's a residential school but...
she's a part of our family and we wouldn't be complete if she wasn't here to tuck in every night...
to kiss good morning.
And there is not a person in that school that doesn't know her...
from the superintendent to the clinic staff...
cafeteria workers to security...
they all know Hunter.
They know her for her contagious laugh.
Her musical giggle that sounds exactly as I imagine angels sound.
And she gets in trouble with it sometimes...
she's so busy laughing she won't do her work.
And then she makes her teachers feel guilty because she's just so happy they hate to make her stop!

So Christmas is a tough one around here.
With all the teachers, activity teachers for my other children...
and all the teachers, therapists, aides and so many others too numerous to count that take care of Hunter every day...
can you say "whew"!
Believe me I do!
It's never a lot but I like to remember everyone with a little gift...
to let them know we appreciate them and all that they do.
And this year...
Hunter has 1 teacher and 5 aides in her class alone.
Now most of the aides are assigned to other students...
Hunter doesn't actually have an aide of her own...
but each of them will help with her if needed...
so I really want to be able to give a little something to each of them and while at Target a couple of weeks ago...
I love the $1 Spot...
don't you?
I found a little something that I thought might work...
so I did this with it...

It's just a simple covering...
4x11 scored at the 4, 4.5, 8.5 and 9...
with a ribbon bellyband...
and I used the incredibly gorgeous Seasonal Remedies from Waltzingmouse to decorate.
When you open you get this...

Mrs. Field's cream sticks.
They came in peppermint and raspberry...
and I picked up an assortment of both.
They also had small boxes of Bailey's Truffles...
with actual Bailey's in them...
and I really debated picking those up instead...
but I'm just going to be honest...
they would have never made it till Christmas.
But wouldn't that little sentiment...
"To bring you good cheer'...
been just perfect for some Bailey's?
*giggle*
Then I made a matching card to go with the little gift package...

Here's both together...

It's not a great picture...
sorry!
We've had clouds for almost a week and rain for 2 days...
I was trying to fit it all in a little spot since I had no natural light source.

I know I kept them simple...
I have like 30 to do...
but I hope everyone will still enjoy them and will know that we really appreciate them and all they do.

OK...
It's been a long post...
and there's so many other stops...
so go and get inspired and I'll see you along the way!

4 of a Kind and A Little Candy...

Yea!!!
It's time for another 4 of a Kind with Joyce (Cards-by-the-Sea), Cathy (EmptyNestCrafter) and Kim (Cupcakes, Cards and Kim)...
I love these!
Joyce suggested this idea a few months ago and every month Joyce, Cathy, Kim and I design cards from a kit sent by one of us...
the kits contain the exact same ingredients for making a card(s)...
and this month it was my turn!
I was so nervous...
didn't know if they would like what I sent...
if they could even use what I sent...
because I didn't have a card done when I sent out the kit.
I didn't even have an idea...
I just cut, stamped, and added little embellishments until I thought (hoped) they would be able to make something out of it all.
And the inspiration came from Sharron at OnPapillionWings...
she did this card a couple months ago for a Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge...
I loved it!
My favorite colors...
favorite holiday paper...
and one of my all time favorite stamp sets...
(I have so many I can't just pick one)...
presto...
changeo...
'ala macaroni...
my kit!
Here's what it looked like before I packaged it up to send out to the girls...
don't pay attention to the scribbles on my pad...
I took this while we were still going through the remodel and I have notes all over the place...
sorry...

There's a little bit of everything...
papers, tags, sentiments, ribbon, lace, buttons...
and the stamped images are from Waltzingmouse Sewing Box Christmas...
my chosen set for the month.
I wanted to stay with a Winter theme...
but there's also some Holiday sentiments from Waltzingmouse A Cottage Christmas, Compliments of the Season and Say It With Style...
so it was totally left up to the person how they wanted to use it.
The printed papers are from Cosmo Cricket Mitten Weather...
see that plaid?
I hoard it!
Love, love, love that paper!
It's my fave and Cathy, Joyce and Kim should now know how much I adore them because I shared it...
*giggle*.
So was I able to make something out of all of this...
yes!
And quite easily I might add!

We're supposed to use at least 4 things to assemble our project and everything is from the kit except for the card base...
and then I just cut my white cardstock with Spellbinders Postage die to create the postage stamp that my mitten sits on.
So quick...
so easy...
I love this card!
And honestly...
just by switching some of the images from Sewing Box Christmas...
the stocking...
the holly...
the candy cane...
the snowman...
I could have an entire collection of Holiday cards in no time!
In fact...
I'm going to! :)

Now...
have you tried Waltzingmouse?
Would you like to?
Claire Brennan...
the incredibly talented creative genius behind these gorgeous stamps...
who also happens to have a heart of pure gold...
has offered you a chance to win one of her amazing sets...
Say It Loud Winter Holiday...

a perfect sentiment set for the Fall and Winter Holidays.
With some leftovers from the kit I created this little ditty using Say It Loud Winter Holiday...

I used a little Nordic Winter (have you seen that set? You have to see that set...it's amazing!)...
a new set from the October release...
on the mitten courtesy Kelly Schirmer (GinghamGirl) to give it a little more "uumph".
I didn't realize my little pearls were off balance until I just now looked at it...
sorry.
I'll fix it!

So...
would you like a chance to win your very own Say It Loud Winter Holiday set?
It's easy.
All you have to do is a leave a comment.
See...
easy!
But...
since only one of our blogs will be randomly chosen and then a comment from that person's blog will win the set...
you'll have more chances if you go over to Cathy, Joyce and Kim's blogs...
and leave a comment for them!
Besides...
you know you want to see what they were able to create using this kit anyway...
so I will see you along the way because I can't wait to see what they created!
Just make sure you do all of this before 11:59 CT on the November 18th...
that's when it ends and I'll be in touch with the winner on the 19th!

Watzingmouse Sketch Challenge #73

Yea!!
Saturday!
And I'm still decorating!
I love Christmas. :)
I don't like the malls...
or the stores...
or the traffic this time of year...
not when I can stay home and don't have to brush my hair...
put on make up...
and spend hours shopping for one gift...
but instead can stay in my jammies and with a few clicks...
it's all done!
But I do love wrapping gifts!
Small ones...
big ones...

I used to think that would be the coolest job ever...
to work in the gift wrapping department with all the paper, bows and ribbon.

Do you remember when stores used to have those?
I miss those days.
When I was younger...
it wasn't just the upscale department stores and boutiques that had them...
we could go to any shop on Main Street and gift wrapping was available.
And that was my dream job...
working in gift wrap.
Then by the time I was actually old enough to get a job though...
most stores had stopped offering it.
I never got to get my dream job wrapping gifts...
so I live my fantasy every Christmas...
wrapping all the gifts to go under the tree.
And when I get done with the gifts...
sometimes I'm tempted to just wrap empty boxes...
but you know...
kids...
presents...
empty boxes...
screams...
tears...
you get the idea.

So another Saturday...
can you believe it's only one more Saturday till Thanksgiving?
Then the madness really begins!
But Saturday's are always fun...
madness or not...
because it's time for another Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge!
And this week is another fabby sketch by Claire...
and of course I went Christmas for this one...
I gotta get my cards done...
*wink*...

Now...here is another shot...
and you have to tell me which you like better.
I'm playing around trying to get better photos...
and be honest with me...
you're not going to offend by giving an opinion...

I used Waltzingmouse's new Santa's Coming to Town...
and a little Twas the Night Before Christmas for the sentiment.
Something about that font...
and that sentiment...
with a silhouette of Santa...
*sigh*.
Claire gives so many options when she designs her sets...
there are so many ways to intermingle all of them...
and have them go perfectly together so you are never going to be limited with her sets.
Love that attention to detail she gives!

Now...
it's time for you to go check out what my fellow Mischief Makers have created using this fabulous sketch...
and then show us what you can do!
We can't wait to see what you create...
and remember...
someone will win the stamp set of their choice just for playing along!
And leave a comment about which photo you like better...
I'm going to take all comments and hopefully work up from there improving my photos...
so I'll give great big, huge THANKS in advance for helping with this little endeavor!
And also...
check back tomorrow night!
There's a special post going up that might just interest you...
there could be a prize...
And...
that's all for now

Step Into Christmas

Let's join together
We can watch the snow fall forever and ever
          Sir Elton John

I love this song.
I mean like truly love.this.song!
Every year...
kicks off my Christmas decorating...
gets me in the Holiday mood...
just makes me happy.
I sing it the whole season...
and even though by the time Christmas arrives I am so tired of hearing Santa Baby play over the stores intercom systems that I want to SCREAM...
not this one!
I will still be dancing in the aisles to it all the way up to Christmas Eve!
And seriously...
I actually do dance to it.
In the aisles.
In the stores.
In public.
Totally embarrasses my kids.

But right now...
as you're reading this...
I'm dancing in my house...
as this song plays...
because love-of-my-life-man-that-I-married...
is in the attic getting the trees down!
Yup!
1st Saturday in November...
equals...
Renee's decorating for Christmas!
YEA!!!
And I know what you're probably thinking...
it's too early...
right?
But it's my favorite time of the year...
and not because of presents and Santa.
It's the decorations...
the lights...
how everything looks like a magical wonderland when it's all lit up.
My favorite thing is to curl up on the couch with a cup of latte...
the lights off...
and just watch the twinkling lights of the tree.
I love it.
And since the tree looks so sad without any gifts underneath it...
it comes down on December 26th every year...
so I decorate early in November so that I have almost 2 months with the house looking warm and inviting...
magical.

Now because it is Saturday...
my favorite day of the week...
that means it's time for another Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge!
This week our fabby sketch is from the incredibly talented Claire...
And here is my take on it...
warning!
A little photo heavy...
but you'll understand why in a moment...

I used Waltzingmouse 'Twas the Night Before Christmas...
have you seen this set?
You have to see it all...
it's so gorgeous!!
Love how Claire put the whole poem in stamp form!
And all the little elements with this set...
I have yet to explore all the many ways to use it!
Now...I did add a little A Cottage Christmas in here too...
the trees and stars...
and I hope you feel like this card is telling a story...
a story card...
because that's what I was going for with it.

And...
I got a little carried away with adding some white behind the moon...
I know!
Actually what happened is...
I did it and realized it was too "perfect" a circle...
the moon doesn't give a perfect circular glow...
so I had to smudge...
and that's when I got carried away.
Sorry.

I used Perfect Pearls again...
told you that you would be seeing them often!
I have discovered that Perfect Pearls are way more forgiving...
so I may never emboss again!

OK...
so what's your plans for today?
Maybe you can head over to the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge blog and oogle what my fellow Mischief Makers have created...
and then join us!
We can't wait to see what you create...
and someone will win the stamp set of their choice just for playing along!
See you there!
