A Year In Review...

Hi, everyone!
Have been so busy lately...
been getting ready for...
then being at...
hospital with my daughter who was scheduled for surgery Thursday.
She has a pump that releases medication in her spine that helps with her CP spasticity...
and it needed replacing.
We were hoping for only one incision site this time but due to an unseen complication...
we have two incisions again...
one in her stomach where the pump is placed...
and one in her back at her spine where the medication is released.
She's doing really well...
and we finally made it home late last night...
after finally opening the door to her room and letting the boys just be themselves...
they decided that getting us out of there couldn't come quick enough...
*giggle*
Love-of-my-life and should have been smarter and opened the door earlier...
and we could have been home by lunch!

But we finally got her home and settled and she's doing great!

And where has this year went?
Didn't we just ring in 2011?
So much has happened over the past year...
I can't believe it's almost over and we're about to ring in 2012!

I started blogging in January...
and remember others doing a countdown of their favorite projects last year...
I loved seeing all the creativity in a nutshell...
and wanted to join in this year!
Of course Cathy (Empty Nest Crafter) reminded me to pick my favorites a month ago...
but I had plenty of time right?
That's why I'm just now doing it...
why do today what can be done tomorrow...
it's how I roll!
*giggle*
So I'm joining in...

http://karin-withaniforpaper.blogspot.com/2011/12/year-in-review.html

I'm not very good at picking things for myself...
and I'll just hope I do this right...

Whew!
Harder than I thought!
And I'm resolving to post more often...
I realized I've been slacking a bit the last few months...
had a hard time finding projects for these last months because well...
I haven't been very consistent!
But tomorrow is a new year...
new resolutions...
new projects and adventures...
so we'll see if I remember!
And how long my memory is...
*giggle*

So any big plans to ring in the New Year?
We usually have "junk food" and game night with the kids...
then watch the ball drop in Times Square on tv...
but with Hunter recovering...
we probably won't make it till midnight tonight.
But we'll still have our "traditional" New Year's fare...
and play some games...
and then we'll see 2012 tomorrow!
I do have the New Year's tradition of no laundry...
no cleaning whatsoever on New Years...
and it is the one day of the year I don't feel guilty for not doing it!
So instead I'm going to bring in some crafty goodies and play a little while sitting and taking care of her.

Thank you all for visiting this past year...
your sweet and encouraging comments...
I have loved and enjoyed each and every one and I wish you all a safe and Happy New Year...
and may 2012 see all your wishes and dreams coming true!

A Quickie Christmas Gift

Hi, all!
I'm just popping in with something I've been working on the last 2 days...
I know...
I said it was a quickie Christmas gift right?
And it is!
For some reason though...
I always seem to do things the hard way.
I blame it all on the kids...
*giggle*

I've talked about my obsession with Pinterest before...
and I am addicted!
I have lost hours...
weeks...
possibly even months to my obsession.
And my mom thought my obsession with 80's hair bands was bad...
too bad she never foresaw Pinterest in my future...
she could be rich!
And that could have possibly made me a future rich heiress...
*giggle*

So I'm obsessed.
I pin all kinds of recipes...
quotes...
colors...
fun projects for the kids...
gift ideas...
and crafty things!
And a while back I pinned a tutorial on how to transfer a photo onto canvas...
Light bulb moment!
I actually have one that goes off occasionally...
it's very sporadic though so it scares me when it does...
but my light bulb went off and I thought "Christmas!"

Is there a Nana who doesn't love getting pictures of the kiddies?
Not ours!
So I had love-of-my-life stop at Michael's to pick up some 8x10 canvases for me...
he phoned me from the parking lot accusing me of trying to kill him by sending him into the lions den...
and he brought me home a 10 pack.
I only requested 4.

But lucky for me he did.
I tried the tutorial I had pinned...
canvas #1 ruined.
I thought it was because the pictures were to dark and detailed...
so I lightened...
reprinted...
and went back to work.
This time...
thinking I had fixed the problem...
#'s 2-5 were ruined all at once.
To be quite honest...
the directions were not exactly clear on what type of paper to use...
I really assumed it was regular printing paper...
so I took out #6 by using photo paper.
This is when I went back to Pinterest...
found another tutorial that did have excellent instructions using the same technique...
but I wasn't taking a chance and found this one instead...

http://sarahsprojects.blogspot.com/2010/02/wall-art-for-siennas-room.html

It uses tissue paper!
You can print on it...
did you know that?
All the instructions are in the link above...
but this one worked!!
And this is what I finally got accomplished in just a few minutes...

This is my baby girl Hunter.
She's blind with CP and getting a good shot of her...
well...
you could shoot 1000 frames and walk away with one usable one.
She's the reason I got a DSR DSLR (oops!).
And this shot makes it worth every penny.

I have seen some little imperfections...
and even though I think those are what makes it "unique"...
I'm going to pick up some more canvases tomorrow and try her picture again.
But for now I'm off to get the other 3 done!

Edited to add: I got the other 3 done and they turned out perfect!  Quick and easy!  I realized what happened to the one above when doing theirs...my tissue paper had some wrinkles in it!  So when I printed the others...I made sure to find a very smooth piece of tissue and they printed perfectly!  I reprinted hers and  talked love-of-my-life into going back into the lions den for more this afternoon...

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #78

Where has the time gone?
Can you believe Christmas is in only one week?
My kids had their last of school till after the New Year yesterday...
and now I have a week of them asking...
"Is it Christmas yet?"

We're going to be spending our weekend cleaning the house...
top to bottom...
because Santa doesn't visit houses that aren't clean...
and then next week we're going to do some Christmas baking...
watch Christmas movies...
and hopefully...
I will end the week with 4 kiddies who are still on the "Good List"...
*giggle*

This week will be our last Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge till after the New Year...
and I'm going to miss them...
and all of you...
but we'll be back right after the Holidays!
And Claire has given us such a fun sketch this week...
so much room for interpretation and creativity...
a great sketch to end the year with...
I had pinned this tutorial on Pinterest...

http://greylustergirl.blogspot.com/2011/06/3-d-cardboard-star.html
and knew I wanted to try this star for the sketch...

I used kraft cardstock and cut a star with my Cricut...
stamped it with Nordic Winter...
then scored the lines.
I attached it to a slightly smaller cut star and then created a tent card to let it "hang".
I stamped the stripes using just the small strip in Off Beat Backgrounds...
and finished it off with a sentiment also from Nordic Winter...
some seam binding and jingle bells.
Super easy!

So head over to the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge blog to check out all the incredible inspiration from my fellow Mischief Makers...
and link up your creation at the link provided.
And remember someone will win a stamp set of their choice just for playing along...
just make sure to use at least one Waltzingmouse product!

And don't forget you have until the 20th to enter Claire's tag contest...
someone is going to win 4 stamp sets of their choice!!
And how incredible is Claire...
she also has her "Nice List" contest going right now on her blog too...
one person will win 4 stamps sets of their choice and 4 stamp sets for their nominated "Nice Person"!!

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #77

Can you believe it's only 2 weeks till Christmas?
I have been cutting, gluing and addressing all week...
and I'm getting close to having everything mailed...
one last batch to go off on Monday!
Whew!
I am so getting a head start on all of this stuff next year!
Lynn (Stamperosity) hosts a Waltzingmouse Christmas Challenge every month over on the forum...
you can find some details here...
and I am already mentally committing myself to participating in every challenge!
I can already imagine how relaxing this time next year will be...
Yes...
there's reality...
and then there's my world...
*giggle*

But right now it's time for another Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge...
and another fabulous sketch by the incredible Claire...
This sketch is open for so many different interpretations...
you're going to have so much fun with it...
I decided to go a little "Candyland" for this one...

I used Waltzingmouse Candy Jar Christmas Fillers with the sentiment coming from Candy Jar Christmas.
I had everything pulled out to get started on this card when Anya (Life Is What You Make It) posted a card using the candycanes and added a little glitter to make them sparkle...
you can see her card here...
so I "borrowed" her inspiration for mine as well...

I love the sparkle on these sweet treats!

So are you ready to play along?
If you need a little more inspiration head over to the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge blog and see all the yummy treats my comakers of Mischief have come up with this week...
and remember...
one lucky person will win the stamp set of their choice just for playing along!

And don't forget...
Claire is still hosting her tag challenge on her blog...
you can read all the details here...
and one very lucky person will win not one...
not two...
not three...
but 4 Waltzingmouse stamp sets of their choosing!

and time for another Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge...
YEA!!
Now...
are you all ready for Christmas?
Cards made and sent?
Lights and trees up?
Gifts wrapped and tagged?
Yeah...
me neither.
But no worries because this week's challenge will help you with one of those items on that checklist!
It's another fabulous sketch by the uber awesome Claire...
Figgy pudding anyone?
OK...I'm going to be totally honest with you here...
I have no idea what figgy pudding is.
And with my eating habits...
I'm not quite sure that I would actually eat it...
though I do happen to enjoy Fig Newtons occasionally...
but this sketch is just a fun one...
and I took it quite literally...

I stamped the patterned paper using just the thin stripe from Off Beat Backgrounds to create a ticking stripe...
it lined up so perfectly for this...
and then the sentiment is from the new 2011 Holiday Ornaments.
I created some chipboard holly leaves and added my "accessory-of-the-season"...
jingle bells!
Easy peasy and so adorable!
And one more tag off my list!

Now...
are ready to get creative?
Hop over to the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge Blog to see what all of the Mischief Makers have created to inspire you...
