12 Kits of Christmas

Hi, everyone!
Welcome to the first month of The 12 Kits of Christmas.

I know...
you're thinking Christmas?
It's January...
Christmas is 11 months away!
But after coming down to the wire...
again...
last year I committed myself to working on Christmas year round this year.
I figure if I can get most of my cards done...
and I say "most" because let's face it...
there's going to be new sets released later in the year that I am going to have to have and then use so there's some give room in there...
by the time the Holidays arrive I'm going to be coasting...
and able to actually enjoy...
them this year!
And when speaking with my dear friend Suzanne (thecardyard) and we were both talking about how we were going to be ahead of the game for the Holiday season this year...
she suggested we challenge each other every month to make sure we stay on goal.
Well...
the idea grew.
And between Suzanne, Cathy, Joyce and Kim...
and 7 other fabulous crafters and friends....
we came up with The 12 Kits of Christmas!
Oh!
And Suzanne also designed our fabulous banner...
make sure to give her a big "Whoo-Hoo"!!

This works very similar to the 4 of a Kind kits with Joyce, Cathy and Kim...
there's 12 of us and each month one of us will be the hostess and create 12 identical kits...
sending a kit to each of the members and keeping one for ourselves.
Then we will all create at least one card...
but we can do as many as we want or have time for...
and we will all post them together on the last day of the month so we can see what each of us created using the exact same ingredients.
And to get the ball rolling I took January...
and par for me...
didn't take a picture of what the kit contained so Kara was sweet enough to send out a photo she snapped and here is a shot of some of the ingredients...

Isn't her photography incredible?
I need to ask her for lessons!

OK...brief explanation of what all was in the kit...
the kit was based around The Grand Madison Window by Memory Box/Poppystamps...
and also included dies from PTI In the Meadow...
Memory Box Star of Wonder & Essex Label...
Cheery Lynn Elegant Evergreen...
sentiments by Waltzingmouse Say It With Style, Compliments of the Season and 'Twas the Night Before Christmas...
PTI In the Meadow...
patterned papers came from October Afternoon Holiday Style...
some jingle bells, buttons, seam binding, The Twinery twine and some gorgeous velvet ribbon by Simplicity.
Cardstock is PTI Stamper's Select, True Black, Pure Poppy and Simply Chartreuse...
whew!
I think I got it all!

And here is what I came up with...

I told you I need Kara to give me photography lessons!
Everything is from the kits except for the card base...
and then I added a little bling from my stash...
a little extra cardstock and patterned paper...
but I cut a couple of die cuts with some included cardstock...
and also made the wreath using the Martha Stewart pine bough punch using a tutorial I found here.
I also have lots left over and plan on using it to CASE some of the fabulous cards I know I'm going to see soon!

Now...
you have to go and visit all the others...
believe me...
you do not want to miss them because there is some seriously amazing talent in this group and I'm really surprised they are allowing me to be a part of it...
or that they are willing to be associated with me...
but there's also a prize at the end for all who do!
Seriously...
the prize is all extra because check out this incredible talent...

Kara (kandrdesigns)
Suzanne (thecardyard)
Joyce (Cards-by-the-Sea)
Marybeth (Marybeth's Time for Paper)
Amy (Stamp-n-Paradise)
Cathy (EmptyNestCrafter)
Jessica (ThePaperParade)
Sharron (OnPappillonWings)
Kim (Cupcakes,Cards and Kim)
Christina (Sea Glass and Sentiments)
Jeanne (AKeptLife)

OK...I said there was a prize so here's the details...
you have to visit everyone and leave a little lovin'.
That's it.
You don't have to follow...
but in order to get the prize out to you please make sure I have a way of contacting you.
Now...
what's the prize?
Here's a pic...

I would love to send you the Grand Madison Window die...
but that baby is in hot demand and no one has it that I've found so I'm sending you some die cuts of it instead...
along with some cuts of the new window box for it...
some flowers and vines...
and though it wasn't in the kit...
another fabby die from Memory Box that has also been in hot demand...
Country Landscape.
You actually get the Country Landscape die.
This is open to everyone...
but internationals please note that it may take a while to get to you...
and I'll close it on Friday February 3rd at 11:59pm CT and announce the winner over the weekend!

Now I also have to give a shout out to Suzanne who hooked me up with my new favorite LSS...
and they may be 1000 miles away but they are my favorite LSS...
and is where I have been able to snag all of these fabulous Memory Box dies...

http://www.absolutelyeverything.com/

They ship free with a $25 purchase...
super fast shipping...
and you have your goodies in just days!
Patti is so incredibly sweet and helpful...
go and pay them a visit because I know they will become your new favorite LSS too!

If you've made it this far...
God Bless You!
Thanks so much for hanging in and hope you enjoy!
Now scoot off and see all the gorgeous eye candy I know is waiting for you!

Hello everyone!
It's Saturday...
and we all know what Saturday's bring...
another fabulous Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge!
Here's the incredible sketch from the inspiringly talented Anya...

And here is my interpretation...

I used my new favorite paper...
October Afternoon's Farmhouse...
seriously...
I die over all of it!
And I thought this beautiful sentiment of faith from Waltzingmouse Words of Wisdom would go beautifully.
I never seem to have cards for difficult situations on hand when I actually need them...
so this one will be going into my stash...
though in all honesty I hope it's quite a while before I need it.

Now it's time for you to hop over to the WMS Challenge Blog and oogle all the incredibly fabulous eye candy all my fellow Mischief Makers have created for your delight...
and then join in!
Just remember to use at least one Waltzingmouse product...
link up your project over on the WMS Sketch Challenge Blog...
and one random winner will win the stamp set of their choice just for playing along!
We can't wait to see what you create!

Now I'm off to bake hubby a special cake for his special day of which I almost got myself in some major trouble because I got slightly confused and thought was actually tomorrow...
really...
28th...
29th...
they're so close together!
Now don't think I'm a bad wife...
he forgot our anniversary this past year!
Almost had me convinced it fell on the 28th...
even though I knew it was the 27th...
I confirmed I was right with my sister and a phone call.
And since the last couple of years the kids have been out for snow the week of his birthday we've always had his cards ready but this year we have been experiencing some warmer than normal temps and the kids have been in school all week so we are also going to be having a card making fest before he gets in from work...
wish me luck!
And I have the camera ready to document everything for Project Life...
I'm starting to get the hang of this new adventure...
with a lot of help and encouragement from my PL buddy Anya!

Hope all of you have a wonderful week!
I have another new adventure on Tuesday so make sure you stop back by!

Children's Hospital Valentine Card Drive

Hi, everyone!
Popping in with some cards I made for the Children's Hospital Valentine Card Drive hosted by Winter Sims...

When I first heard of this on Kara's blog...
it was right after we had just returned from Vanderbilt Children's Hospital where Hunter had had her surgery...
all of the kids had come home with stuffed animals that had been donated for the children in hospital over the holidays...
so this drive kind'a struck close to home.
Also St. Jude is just down in Memphis and though I have never visited and pray fervently that I am never in need of the services they provide...
my family has long been a supporter of them and all the incredible work that they do.
And if I can throw just one more thing into the mix...
St. Louis Children's has an incredible pediatric neurosurgery department and there is a surgery that we would like to investigate further for Hunter...
and if she qualifies...
will alleviate any future need for repeat surgeries like she just had...
so we may someday find ourselves in St. Louis taking advantage of the care that she can receive there.
Don't get me wrong...
Vanderbilt can perform it...
we love our neurosurgeon here...
but the top doctor...
the one who has perfected it and trained others in performing it...
is in St. Louis.
So you can see where a card drive like this hits close to my heart...
and how I had to participate.

I won't bore you with oodles of pics...
but there are a few...

I kept mine very CAS and kid friendly in regards to buttons and bling...
and I really wanted to use some bling!
I used PTI's Tiny Treats: Valentine's and WPlus9 A Pocketful:Valentine for these...

And then my very favorite (and hoarded) AMuse gingham paper and Waltzingmouse for these...

I didn't even think about punching hearts out of the scrap gingham until I was done assembling the gingham squares...
but I do think it would have been more interesting if I had mixed the solid and gingham squares...
only I wasn't quick enough with the thought...
sorry!
And then those hearts from Waltzingmouse Say It With Style are actually on scrap squares that I had left over from a recent die cutting extravaganza...
more detail on it next week...
*wink*

So you can read all the details about the drive here on Winter's blog...
but she needs to receive the cards no later than January 31st so not a lot of time to get them in the mail...
but I also know they will be greatly appreciated!

Till next time!

May The Road Rise to Meet You...

May the wind be at your back...
May the sun shine warm down upon your land...
May the rain fall soft upon your face until we meet again...
May God hold you in the palm of his hand

Hi, everyone!
Hope you have had a fabulous week!
Back again for another fabulous sketch for the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge...

And when I first saw this I knew I wanted to use Waltzingmouse Irish Blessings for it.

I stayed pretty simple with this weeks challenge...
but I think an image like this speaks best when left in it's own natural beauty.
And I loved this set the first time I saw it...
unfortunately it has not seen the love from me that it deserves.
Such a gorgeous set...
with beautiful Irish blessings...
in both Gaelic and English.
I can't pronounce the Gaelic...
but Haley is actually about to take up a foreign language...
and though we debated Japanese, Italian and Russian...
we all decided on Gaelic.
A nod to her very Irish heritage...
you can't go through life with the name of Lynch and not be Irish...
but also for the beauty of the language...
so I'm hoping to pick some up myself as well...
I'm excited to try!
Now besides this reason...
I also loved this set because of the song above.
When Haley was younger she sang in a children's choir and every Spring they closed their concert with
"May the Road Rise to Meet You"...
and to this day it still brings tears to my eyes when I remember this being sung in the beautiful, sweet voices
of all the children on stage.
I cried during the concert too...
don't laugh...
you would have too!
The most precious thing!

So ready to join us with this fabulous sketch?
Head over to the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge Blog and see what all my fellow amazingly talented Mischief Makers have to inspire and delight...
and then link up your creation on the blog!
Just remember to use at least one Waltzingmouse product...

Hope you all have a fabulous week and we can't wait to see what you create!

Waltzingmouse Stamps Blog Party

Yup!
You read right!
The Waltz has turned into a party!
And if you happen to have missed the details...
you can read about them here.
And then you can link up and join in the fun! :)

This month's theme is "Sweet Things"...
and I was having a hard time with coming up with something other than I knew chocolate was going to be involved!
Valentine's Day is coming...
and we all know what that holiday is about...
love.
And chocolate.
And I really do love me some chocolate!
*giggle*
Sometimes...
when I'm kissing the kids goodnight and telling them how much I love them...
I tell them I "love you more than the whole wide world...
more than the universe...
even more than chocolate"...
*giggle*
They know they're my world!

So I knew chocolate was going to be involved...
and well...
life has been tough lately...
and sometimes...
when life gets tough...
life needs a Dove.
It won't solve problems...
or mend a broken heart...
but it sure does taste good!
And problems are always better faced with a Dove in hand.
And this is what I did with them...
please be gentle because I was way out of my comfort zone with this one...

I know...
it's pastel-y...
and frilly...
and fru-fru...
and so not me.
I love bold, dark colors...
reds...
blues...
browns...
greens...
but when searching for paper to use to cover this craft box with...
I happened upon this in my stash and well...
I got stuck on an idea and wouldn't let it go!
Pink is not "my signature color"...
name that movie!

I really thought the sentiment from Waltzingmouse Rescue Remedies would look so beautiful in pastel...

among lace...
and I may have gotten carried away...
but it's my first attempt with fru-fru.
And out of everything I have ever made...
my daughter...
who is not a fru-fru person in any shape, form or fashion...
reacted the strongest over this box...
and that's before she even knew there were Dove's inside!

You can tell she's mine...
Dove is her kryptonite too!
So guess what she's getting?
*giggle*

I made a coordinating card using Rescue Remedies Additions...

I LOVE the font on this sentiment...
and stamped an element included in Rescue Remedies on the side to help frame it in.
Those roses?
Found them at Michael's...
who loves the $1 spot?
I am hopelessly addicted to any $1 spot in any store...
I can always find such great little do-dads...
and when I find something...
I buy in bulk!
I found these roses last Summer...
and bought tons in the colors offered...
they even came with their own sticky dots...
and was just waiting for a chance to use them!
Then I added some MS punched pine boughs...
may have gotten carried away again...
sorry!

OK...
so the party has started...
are you ready to join in?
Hop over to Claire's blog and see all the incredible eye candy everyone has for you...
and I hope see you there!

The Details:
Stamps: Waltzingmouse Rescue Remedies, Rescue Remedies Additions
Cardstock: PTI Rustic White, Simply Chartreuse

A New Year...

and another 4 of a Kind with Joyce, Kim and Cathy!

I've totally missed doing these over the Holidays...
but Joyce (Cards-by-the-Sea), Kim (Cupcakes, Cards and Kim), Cathy (EmptyNestCrafter) and I decided to take a break for the them so I was very excited when Cathy sent our kits last month...
it had been so long...
and couldn't wait to get started again!
Here's a pic of everything she included in the kit...
excuse the mess...
I was crafting...

I died when I saw everything included...
the colors...
the paper...
velvet ribbon...
she even cut and scored Post-it covers!
And included a pen!

Cathy sent things from PTI's Take Note and Flutterby Friend...
and the gorgeous color palette of PTI Melon Berry, Berry Sorbet, Vintage Cream and Smokey Shadow...
coordinated with the patterned Just Simply Jane Authentique paper she sent perfectly!

And here is the little trio I whipped up with it all...
warning...
photo heavy...

Everything is from the kit Cathy sent except for the little bit of lace I added to the card...
even all the die cuts were made from paper she sent!
Now you know why I died!
Everything just assembled itself...
and I still have leftovers!

Now...just a note...
I've been playing with different lighting lately...
trying to find a good natural light spot...
and I'm really thinking I'm liking the way these came out...
what do you think?
I used no lights...
it's all natural...
and the only thing I did was a quick touch-up and a little trimming on my camera.
I also now notice that I could have also done with a little bit of straightening...
but just overlook that ok?
So I think I may have found the spot...
it's the ledge behind the MB tub...
and shots have to be done after 9am and before 11am...
on a sunny day...
so could have future issues on a rainy day...
but what do you think?

OK...
now you have to go off and visit...
Joyce,
Kim...
Cathy...
and see what they were able to come up with using all these fabulous goodies!
And make sure to stop back by on the 31st...
there's a new venture that I'm so excited about and can't wait to share with you!

Watzingmouse Sketch #80

Hi, everyone!
Hope you all have had a fabulous week!
We've had a busy one with some unexpected things happening...
but we've made it through and are looking forward to better days ahead.

And now I'm back for another fabulous Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge...
Isn't this one great?
So much room for creativity.
And after saying this...
I went CAS.
*giggle*

I don't know about any of you...
but I struggle tremendously with CAS style...
and am always trying to improve and get better at it...
I will accept all recommendations!
I used the incredibly gorgeous Waltzingmouse Say It With Style for this one...
isn't that font stunning?
I love this set...
and all the little elements included in it...
such a fabby set for all kinds of special occasions.
And...
since I tried CAS there's not much else to say...
except I love that gingham paper!
It's AMuse...
and I love it more than bacon!
Oh!  And you can't tell but that black ribbon...
it's the most incredible black velvet!
I bought it for an upcoming project and I'm hoarding all leftovers because even though I found it at my local Michael's on the ribbon aisle...
I'm thinking it may have just been for the recent holidays and until I see a permanent display of it...
I'm taking no chances!

So are you ready to get inky and join us?
Skip on over to the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge Blog and see what all the other Makers of Mischief have for you...
such an incredibly talented group of ladies...
you will be inspired...
then link up your creation so we can oogle it!
Remember...
just need to use one Waltzingmouse item...
and one lucky participant will win the stamp set of their choice just for playing along!
Don't have any Waltzingmouse yet?
No problem!
Claire has some freebies for you to use over at the store!

And...
don't forget about the Waltzingmouse Stamps Blog Party on the 17th!
The name may have changed...
you can check all the details here...
but it's going to be even more fabulous than it already was so you're going to love the changes!
See you then!

The Snow Dance

Every year since the girls started school...
every Winter has seen my children doing what is called The Snow Dance.
I've heard of it being done in other parts of the country...
but in the South...
it's a big deal.
It's done every time the mere mention of snow is whispered...
and last night was no exception.

We were in the 60's with rain earlier this week...
but the weatherman brought the word revered by children far and wide into the forecast...
and last night saw my boys getting down and funky doing The Snow Dance!
Yes...
I actually said the word...
"funky".

Now I don't know how you may do it in your neck of the woods...
but here...
there's a very precise method to the dance...
of which I am about to explain to you.

First...
you have to flush a bowl of ice cubes down the toilet...
both of my boys had to do this.
I don't know why one bowl wasn't enough...
maybe it was an insurance policy.
Then you have to put your underwear on your head...
and run around the table 10 times.
My boys stripped...
again...
insurance policy?
I stopped them before they got to underwear currently in use...
and made them get clean pairs.

They ran around the table...
laughing and chasing each other in almost nothing more than what God sent them into the world with...
with underwear on their head...
chanting "Snow, snow, snow" at the top of their lungs.

It was one of those perfect moments when all is right in the world.

Now you're wondering...
did it work?

I'm watching great big ole' fat, fluffy flakes fall as I type.

Say that fast 3 times...
I dare you!
*giggle*

We've seen some flurries so far this Winter...
but nothing more...
so to actually see the ground starting to turn white...
even though we know it's only going to be a dusting to 1/2 inch...
the kids are already making plans to break out the sled.
They're very optimistic that the weatherman is wrong and we're actually going to get a blizzard.
And as the true Southerner I am...
after the dance...
I went out last night and bought milk, bread and eggs...
but I didn't buy enough for a blizzard.
Though I am hoping for a 4 day weekend for the kids.
And just go ahead and laugh now...
but yes...
a dusting can see us having a snow day!
We're in the South!

So in celebration of our first snow...
and the hopes my boys have of actually being able to build a snowman...
I whipped up a quickie card...

When PTI released their Snowman Shape Up die a few months ago...
I absolutely loved the plaid snowman done by Nichole Heady found in this post...
so I made a plaid snowman.
I used Waltingmouse Offbeat Backgrounds for the plaid...
I love that set!
And then I also used a new (to me) Memory Box snow die for the background...
it's so cool the way it looks like falling snow!
Everything else is PTI.

Whether your idea of gorgeous weather is sunshine and 70's...
or freezing and snow...
hope you are enjoying gorgeous weather wherever you may be!
And if we get that snow day tomorrow...
since love-of-my-life-man-that-I-married will also be home...
I may just have to whip up a traditional snow day food...
homemade doughnuts!

My New Project...

Life.

2012 has started to be a great year...
and a sad year.

2012 started off with Hunter recuperating from surgery...
being the absolute amazing, incredible little girl that she is.
I say this not to make you jealous...
but I do live life truly believing everyone should be blessed enough to have a Hunter...
and that somewhere in my life I did something so incredibly wonderful...
that pleased God so much...
that he chose me to be her mother.
I can't help it...
I make no apologies...
she is amazing.

And so far...
2012 has seen Dinky cutting his hair...
in the very center of his forehead...
almost to the scalp.
He looks kind'a funny.

2012 has seen Robert going to his first boy/girl party...
not including pre-k and kindergarten...
everyone gets invited those years...
but this was the first one he was invited to by a girl...
who isn't even in his class...
and he wanted to go.
Though he did call to ensure that she had no dogs before he left...
it could have changed everything if she had said "Yes".
Girlfriend?
He says "No"...
and I say "Thank you"...
I'm not ready.
Neither is he...
he usually forgets to brush his hair each morning.
But her parents loved him...
wanted to keep him and has invited him back anytime...
he says he's going back.
She loved his gift...
he picked it out himself...
and her parents even said it beat out their gift for her...
tickets to Big Time Rush with backstage passes!
He bought her a Monster High doll and watch...
don't ask because I have no idea...
but apparently it's the new rage for 10 year old girls.

2012 is the year that Haley is going to take up a foreign language...
more for the challenge than anything else...
she's decided to start with a (hopefully) fairly easy one...
Gaelic.
A nod to her very Irish heritage.

And then Friday evening I received a phone call.
My cousin...
a year younger than me...
one that our childhood's are so deeply intertwined that one could not be without the other...
had very suddenly died.

We've not been close in recent years...
we grew up and have our own lives...
commitments...
and unfortunately...
her and I didn't actually share a lot of things in common.
We lived very different lives.
Doesn't mean I ever stopped loving her...
she was family.
We don't ever have to agree or approve how someone lives their life...
just be there to support...
to pick up when they fall...
giving a hug and kind word...
when they need it.
We're family.

And now she's gone.
Her mother and father...
her children...
her brother and sisters...
are trying to make sense out of a cruel twist of fate.

The last couple of days I've been searching through old photos for pictures of her...
of us when we were much younger...
and that searching led me to a decision.

I have watched Michelle Wooderson and her Project Life for the last year...
have thought numerous times to start it myself...
but always coming to the decision that I was just too busy...
no time to take on yet another project...
that my life was too mundane.
nothing exciting...
just the every day stuff.
So many excuses.

No more.

That mundane...
that is my life!
And I love every moment of it.
I never want to forget it...
I want to treasure each and every day.
And someday...
when the kids are grown...
living their own lives...
I want to live this one over again.
I want to sit and touch these moments in time...
to remember Hunter's first smile when waking from surgery...
Dinky's horrid self haircut...
Robert's blush when asked about this little girl...
Haley's first language lesson...
because this is my life.

So with love-of-my-life's blessing...
I ordered Becky Higgins Project Life.
I got Clementine...
should be here next week...
and now...
something that I thought I was too busy to take on...
I can't wait to start.

I already know that I'll do the simple...
weekly version...
or at least that's how it will start...
who really knows where it will go from here.
And I'll share a little along the way.
Glimpses into my very mundane...
unexciting life...
but the life I love.

Life is...
too short.
Too precious.
And I don't want to miss another moment in this life.

Waltzingmouse #79

Hello everyone...
hope all of you have had wonderful Holidays!
I've missed you!
But with Hunter having surgery and recuperating...
which she is doing very well...
and thank you so much for all your thoughts, prayers and well wishes...
with all of my heart...
you will never know how much that means to me.
She does have a little fluid in her lungs right now...
and we're watching her very closely for any signs of fever...
which we'll then have breathing treatments set up...
pneumonia isn't uncommon after surgery for this very reason but I've always known that pneumonia is my worst fear with her...
so being very cautious and she'll be home with me again next week.
But she's healing fantastically...
has handled this surgery like the amazing, incredible person is...
and we hope to have her back at 100% soon!

I love the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenges...
don't you?
And though I enjoyed the little break...
time to just enjoy the Holidays...
I also missed you and the weekly challenges so I'm excited to get going with them again!
Though I warn you...
I'm a little rusty!
You'll understand in a moment!

Here is the fabulous sketch we have for you this week...

And I almost pulled out a Christmas set again when I realized...
it's over!
It's 2012!!
And here's my take...
That rusty comment...
if you were to look closely...
which now I'm telling you not to...
seriously!
Don't go there!
But I've been working close to Hunter and have moved a lot of stuff with me to be with her...
and without even thinking...
stamped my sentiment on my paper cutter...
which has score lines!
It's so crooked and off kilter...
but don't look!
Just know that I'm aware...
and I promise not to do it again!
OK...
I promise to try not to do it again...
and that's probably the best I can do at this point because I haven't had an excessive amount of sleep in the last week...
sorry!

But I used Dainty Doilies 2...
and have you tried the doilies?
OMG...
they are so fabulously easy to line up...
I'm in love!
Layered with one of the small images...
added some pearl bling...
and used some of my new favorite paper...
October Afternoon Farmhouse.

Simple...
easy...
and a great way to ease back into something that isn't Christmas...
it's been so long!
Though...
I am committed to completing all of Lynn's Christmas Challenges over on the forum this year...
she posts a new challenge each month on the 10th...
so I will still be doing Christmas...
just not all at once!

Now are you ready to get back to some sketches?
Go and check out all of the fabulous eye candy my fellow Mischief Makers have created for you...
